Wangerooge is the most eastern of the East Frisian Islands. (Wangerooge, Borkum, Juist, Norderney, Baltrum, Langeoog and Spiekeroog).
Wangerooge is around 7,94 sq/km big, has around 1100 inhabitants and accommodates a lot of tourists in summer. It was bombed heavily during world war II.
How to get there
To get there take a train (Intercity) to the Eastfrisian Coast to Norden, Emden or Oldenburg.
There is a ferry going between the Mainland and Wangerooge at Harlesiel. Departure time can change and is dependent on tides, wind and weather. You can take a plane to the island from Harlesiel, Bremen, or Hamburg.
Take time and relax at the great beaches and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. Life is going slowly on this island, no haste. Cars are prohibited on the island. You can wander along the long beaches, do windsurfing, kite-surfing or board-riding and find other activities.
Wangerooge has a lot of towers and sometimes gets hit by strong storms.
The Beach at the promenade.
The climate is rough, so don't forget your pullover. To walk along the beach at rough weather and breathe in deeply is good for your lungs.
