The Steinhuder Meer (lake Steinhude) is a lake located in a nature reserve 30 kilometres northwest of the city Hannover near the village of Steinhude.
The lake has an area of 29,1 sq/km and is on average 1,35 meters deep only. Max depth is 2.9 meters. It is 8 km long and 4,5 km wide and has two artificial islands: Wilhelmstein (off Hagenburg) and the Badeinsel Steinhude, a big island with a white sandy beach.
There are cycling tracks around the lake. The lake is popular among locals and for people who are on a holiday and its environment is ideal for nature photographers, kite surfing, wind surfing and fishing.
