Grosser Ploener See
The grosser Ploener See (great lake Ploen) is located in northern Germany northeast of Hamburg in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park near the town of Plön.
The lake has an area of about 28.4 sq/km and is 7.75 km long and 7 km width.
The lake is visited by residents of the cities Kiel, Lübeck and Hamburg and by tourists. There are bathing sites and some campsites on the lakeshore. Tourists can enjoy recreational activities like sailing, kiting, diving, fishing and cycling.
The town Plön is nice and you can go on a boat excursion on the lake. Enjoy the local fish specialities in den restaurants. (Regional speciality = on beechwood smoked eel!)
Prinzeninsel in the Grossen Ploener See
Southwest of Plön there is the "Prinzeninsel" which is a peninsular. It is 2 km long and it was the favorite place of the last German empress, Auguste Viktoria.
